Industry leaders gather at UK Airport Infrastructure Forum with sustainability and innovation high on the agenda

Industry leaders will convene at the UK Airport Infrastructure Forum 2024 on 11 July 2024, to explore plans for airport development in the UK and discover new innovations that help progress infrastructure delivery while meeting sustainability requirements.

The event, hosted by international law firm Pinsent Masons in London, will provide an opportunity for key players in airport infrastructure to come together, share ideas, and gain crucial insight into current projects underway and future airport development.

The primary focus of the forum will be on improving sustainability and leveraging key technologies to upgrade infrastructure. Other themes to be explored include future fuels, unlocking economic and social benefits for local communities, enhancing surface access to ensure greater connectivity, and increasing airport capacity.

The forum will also examine the long-term challenges facing infrastructure projects and explore the most effective strategies to meet net-zero targets by 2040.

A keynote speaker at this year’s event will be Mark Edwards, Head of Sustainability at Gatwick Airport, who will discuss ways to improve sustainability and embed renewable energy solutions at airports while delivering infrastructure projects. Jon Matthews, Transformation Director at AGS Airports, will examine the latest technologies that enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency at airports across the UK.

A range of other leading airport infrastructure experts in the industry will also explore:

  • preparations for zero-emission aircraft and developing infrastructure to implement alternative future fuels effectively.
  • driving airport growth forward – next steps to ensure airport expansion.
  • long-term challenges to deliver the airport of the future.

The event will be chaired by Jane Thompson, Director of ICF’s Aviation, Travel and Tourism Division, and Tim Walder, Managing Director at TWW Solutions. Both are deputy chairs at the British Aviation Group, the leading UK trade association for companies working across the aviation infrastructure supply chain.

Jane Thompson said: “The UK Airport Infrastructure Forum offers a unique opportunity for key players in the airport industry to come together, share ideas, and develop effective strategies concerning the planning and delivery of new infrastructure that will future-proof the airport network.

“It’s a critical time for the industry as we look to develop a joined-up approach on policy and new innovations that will improve sustainability within both current and future infrastructure projects.

“There will be plenty of opportunities for attendees to network with significant stakeholders in the airport sector, including those leading on key technologies and planning and delivering airport infrastructure.”

The event is being organised by Waterfront Conference Company. Waterfront delivers physical and virtual policy conferences for the planning, energy, rail, ports and maritime sectors.
