The recently constructed Terminal 4 at Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport has officially opened to the public, increasing passenger capacity to 31.4 million a year.

The 12,200ft2 terminal cost 85 million real (US$49.3 million) to construct and will be home to airline operator Webjets.

The new structure features a large check-in area, elevators, restrooms, baggage claim carosels and restaurants, as well as a car park offering 790 spaces.

In order to help passengers arriving at the new terminal, Infraero staff wearing yellow “Can I Help You” vests will be on hand to answer questions and electronic billboards in the airport access road and posters in terminals 1 and 2 are also in place to inform passengers of the changes.

The airport improvements are part of the Brazilian government’s plans to upgrade and improve its aviation sector ahead of the football World Cup in 2014.
