Menzies Aviation workers at Glasgow airport secure 6.8 per cent wage deal

Ground services crew employed by Menzies Aviation at Glasgow airport have accepted a new one-year pay deal which will boost pay packages by 6.8 per cent.

Over 200 workers including dispatchers, allocators, airside agents and controllers have overwhelmingly accepted the Menzies Aviation pay offer, which increases basic pay by 6 per cent.

The agreement will be backdated to January this year, and it follows an increase on last year’s deal with Menzies which had increased basic pay by up to 11 per cent when inflation had peaked.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite has secured a wage deal which yet again significantly boosts the working environment of Menzies Aviation workers.

“Unite does what it says on the tin: we deliver better jobs, pay and conditions for aviation workers not only at Glasgow airport but across every airport in Scotland.” 

Other enhancements to the pay package means that its total worth to Menzies Aviation workers is 6.8 per cent. This includes a rise in the overtime rate to two times the basic hourly pay – up from time and a half. Eligibility to the sick pay scheme has been enhanced to a maximum of six weeks full pay followed thereafter by six weeks half pay. This is an improvement from eligibility to the scheme for workers being after six months service. An unsociable hours supplement of 50 pence per hour for all hours worked between 23:00pm and 06:00am will also be introduced.

Pat McIlvogue, Unite industrial officer, added: “Unite delivers time after time for our Menzies Aviation members. The latest wage deal enhances basic pay along with shift and overtime rates. There is also improved access to the company sick pay scheme. 

“It’s worthwhile noting that this deal was achieved through negotiation. Other companies based at Glasgow Airport and across Scottish airports should pay attention because the Menzies Aviation deal shows everyone can win from doing things the right way.”
