The airport’s performance in 2023 significantly exceeded forecasts that projected slightly over 15 million passengers handled. In reality, Chopin Airport served precisely 18,499,527 travellers, showcasing a remarkable 98% recovery in traffic compared to the record-breaking year of 2019. July emerged as the peak month, registering 1,935,714 passengers, while February witnessed the lowest volume at 1,119,953.

Stanisław Wojtera, President of PPL S.A. and member of the Management Board of ACI Europe, expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the outstanding results. He emphasized the impact of these achievements in fortifying the position of the Polish aviation sector in the European market and expressed the belief that the recorded numbers confirmed a quick return to normality in the aviation sector.

In December alone, the airport handled nearly 1.4 million travellers, representing a mere 0.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2019. Chopin Airport closed the year with more than 121,700 charter passengers, a 21% increase from December four years ago.

In 2023, Chopin Airport marked a record in passengers served on charter flights, totalling 2.6 million. Transit passengers constituted 26% of the total handled, with over 7 million choosing the Non-Schengen Zone and more than 11.4 million opting for the Schengen Area.

Cargo operations also witnessed a record-breaking year, with nearly 103.6 thousand tonnes handled — an increase of 6% compared to 2019 when cargo volume was nearly 97.8 thousand tonnes.

Among the remarkable achievements was the record set on August 11, when 67,968 passengers passed through the terminal in a single day.

The top five destinations from Warsaw Chopin Airport in 2023 remained consistent with the previous year: London, Paris, Antalya, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt. However, the ranking varied when distinguishing between regular and charter routes. The most popular regular routes included London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Dubai, while the preferred charter routes were Antalya, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Heraklion, and Rhodes. Leading carriers for the year were PLL LOT, Wizz Air, Enter Air, Lufthansa, and Smartwings.
