Road connection completed from Terminal 3 via the new junction / connection via ten kilometers of new roads

From June 1st, the extended Zeppelinheim junction on the Autobahn 5 (A 5) will be open to traffic after almost four years of construction. This completes the road connection from Terminal 3 to the existing transport network via the new connection point.

From 3 p.m., road users can drive on the section of road . The first section of the junction went into operation in mid-2022 and has been available for public transport ever since.

The junction is part of a total of ten kilometers of new roads that were built to connect Terminal 3. In future, travellers, visitors and employees will be able to access the junction directly in front of the main terminal building or the adjacent multi-storey car park with its 8,500 parking spaces. In addition, road users can now reach CargoCity South much faster.

“We are pleased to have reached an important project step in the construction of Terminal 3 with the opening of the extended connection point. With the completion of the work, we added another piece of the puzzle to the expansion project,” says Axel Kirn, project manager at Fraport Ausbau Süd GmbH.

During the work, the exit from the A 5 junction was expanded to include another lane for traffic coming from the south. In addition, it was expanded to include a new driveway for northbound traffic. With today’s opening, the existing Zeppelinheim junction will be immediately relieved. The video available here illustrates the future flow of traffic around Terminal 3 .
