Minangkabau terminal opening scheduled

The new terminal at Minangkabau International Airport in Indonesia will open in February 2020, according to operator Angkasa Pura.

The new passenger terminal, currently 60% complete, is adjacent to the existing terminal. The two terminals will be connected at a later date, and the layout of the resulting large terminal building will be redesigned in order to ensure smooth passenger flow. Connecting the terminals will give Minangkabau a capacity of 5.7 million passengers a year, a significant increase over its current capacity of 2.2 million.

“Through the construction of a new terminal and the expansion of the apron, we are optimistic that the Minangkabau International Airport will be more optimal in supporting Padang and West Sumatra, as one of the main tourist destinations in Indonesia,” said the president director of Angkasa Pura, Muhammad Awaluddin.

“International flights to and from Padang each year continue to increase. We are trying to improve international route connectivity next year, in addition to domestic routes of course,” he added.
