Salt Lake City construction timelapse

A recently released video provides a timelapse view of the construction of the new Salt Lake International City in Utah.

Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah serves more than 25 million passengers per year from facilities that were designed 50 years ago and intended to serve half as many travelers.

A lot has changed since the early 1960s. Salt Lake City has grown into a hub airport, with many flights arriving and leaving around the same time. Security needs have evolved, and there is a need for buildings that meet earthquake safety standards.

The existing facilities have served the community well, but Salt Lake City is now building a brand-new airport that will serve and grow with the region for decades to come. Replacing three aging terminals, the new airport will be a state-of-the-art facility with one large, central terminal and two linear concourses connected by a passenger tunnel, with more space and amenities, providing passengers with a world-class airport experience. The facility will be built in two phases, with the first phase – including the central terminal, parking garage, and parts of the new concourses – expected to be complete by 2020, and the second phase expected to be complete by 2024.
