ArS Autonomous runway Safeguard presented on the 14th June 2024

Aeroclub Volovelistico Alpino AVA, five minutes from Milan Bergamo Airport BGY, has enthusiastically welcomed the proposal of MC Solutions, a company expert in remote control and monitoring, in establishing the Innovation LAB.

On the 14th June MC Solutions officially presented ArS Autonomous Runway Safeguard in operation: the system detects aircraft already from the approach or taxiing phase and automatically activates the red lights installed at holding positions to prevent runway incursions.

The key words are Prevention, because the system detects an approaching flight, even before the runway is actually occupied, and Autonomous, meaning the red lights turn on automatically, without human intervention, when the control tower is not there, is unattended, or as a tool to support air traffic controllers.
Here is the Innovation.

But it is not just Italian technique and engineering capability: universality and accessibility are the principles that define ArS and the very concept of Innovation.
In effect, the system is universal because it detects the transponder Mode S of any aircraft, from commercial to general aviation aircraft, and it is accessible because its installation does not require huge investments, infrastructure works or very expensive maintenance that only large international airports can afford.

The commitment of MC Solutions and the Aeroclub Volovelistico Alpino, which within the Valbrembo airport grounds hosts its own IT.DTO.020 PPL, LAPL, SFCL and TMG certified flight school as well as the ATO CANTOR AIR, and the Helispin helicopter school, represents the highest concept of spreading the culture of safety among today’s young pilots, who in the likely future will be responsible for hundreds of passengers on board.

In aviation, there is no room for interpretation or nuance: red is universally a stop command that cannot be ignored!
